My first client wants a referral to my next client and I don't know if that's normal or a problem
The guy who hired me to review his duplex offer in the South Valley asked me at the end of the call if I knew anyone else who needed this kind of help, and whether he could give them my name. Fine. Then he asked if I'd be willing to connect with them directly, maybe do a short intro call, and basically source my own next client for him. No mention of anything in it for me, just that it would "help his friend." I did the first engagement for $400, two hours of actual work plus the write-up, and I'm not trying to turn that into some kind of referral operation where I'm doing free intake calls for people he knows. On the other hand I'm two paid engagements into this whole thing and I genuinely don't know if this is how the early pipeline actually gets built, where you just say yes to the awkward stuff until it turns into something real. Is a client referring you to their network something you encourage, and do you charge for the intro call with whoever shows up, or does that first call stay free the way it seems to everywhere else?
