Flying my own drone over my own gut job, apparently that needs a Part 107
Mid renovation on a 1920s two story, roof came off the back addition, and I've been flying a $700 drone over it twice a week so I have a record of the framing and the flashing details before the siding goes back on. Partly for me, partly because the plan was always to cut the good clips into the listing video when we sell.
My framer told me that the second I use any of that footage to sell the house it becomes commercial and I need the FAA license. Someone else told me that's only true if I charge somebody, and I'm not charging anybody, I own the house. Then I read something about drones under 250 grams being exempt from all of this, and mine is 595 grams, which suggests weight matters somewhere.
So where is the actual line, and does it change if I hire someone instead?
