The account gets shut off rather than the members getting sued, but it gets shut off at the worst moment.

The cleaner version is each member paying for their own low tier and the group jointly funding the one expensive thing, usually the data pull.

Something worth sorting out before you join a shared anything: whose data is it when the group stops getting along. Seller lists built from a shared account walk out the door with whoever's email is on the login. Groups that write down who owns the list, even in a one-page agreement, avoid a fight later. And calling or texting numbers off a skip trace brings do-not-call and text-consent rules into play, which vary by state and are worth an hour with an attorney rather than a group chat consensus.
