After two weeks of reading about liens and deeds I'm worse at this
So I've been reading about this for about two weeks and I think I've managed to confuse myself. Some articles talk about buying a lien and earning 16% or 18%, some talk about buying houses at county auctions for $500, and half the time they use the words interchangeably. One site said a tax lien means you own the property after a year. Another said you almost never get the property and it's basically a savings account with paperwork.
Also I don't understand what I'd actually be paying for. Am I paying the tax bill? Am I paying whatever someone bids? And is there a minimum, like do I need $25k sitting around before any county will let me register?
This is the question I'd have been too embarrassed to ask out loud, so here it is in writing.
