Who chases the receipts, me or the person I'm paying to keep the books
I've got two small rentals and I still buy most of my materials with a card in my truck. Got two quotes for monthly bookkeeping last week and they draw the line in completely different places.
The first one says the bank and card feeds do the work. She codes what comes through, and if something looks odd she sends me a short list at month end. Cheaper, and she was upfront that she isn't going to ask twice for a receipt.
The second one wants receipts through an app within a week of the purchase, and she said she'll follow up until she has them. That quote was about sixty dollars a month higher for the same door count.
I can see the argument both ways. A card charge for 340 dollars at a home improvement store tells you nothing about whether it was a repair on one house or cabinets on the other, and I'm the only one who knows. But I also know myself, and if nobody asks me, the photo never gets taken.
Where should that job sit, and should I be paying extra for someone to nag me about it?
Who should own receipt capture in a real estate bookkeeping engagement?
