My bathroom tile guy walked off the Wrocław Street triplex mid-demo and I ate $2,100 in sunk labor
Had him in for three weeks, demo done, waterproofing done, backer board up. He found a bigger bathroom job across town, told me Thursday afternoon he'd finish "after that one," which in contractor time means never. I don't have a signed scope with a completion date, just a handshake and a WhatsApp thread, so I have nothing to hold him with. The $2,100 covers his demo days and the backer board install, all paid out already. Now I'm looking at a half-gutted bathroom in unit 2 with the tenant in unit 1 sharing a wall and getting restless. I need someone in there by Monday or I'm eating another week of apologies to the tenant. Every tile guy I've called this week is either six weeks out or wants a 40 percent deposit before they'll even do a site visit, which I'm not doing again without something signed. If anyone in the forum has worked out a contract clause that actually keeps a tile sub from walking mid-job, I want to see the language.
