What does insurance actually look like when you're living in a gut job?
Curious about the service side of this and this keeps coming up when I talk to people. If you buy a house that's half torn apart and you live in it while you fix it, what policy are you even on? A friend of mine said her insurer wouldn't write a normal homeowners policy because the kitchen was missing and she ended up with something called builders risk, which sounded expensive. And separately, do you need any kind of license to do the work on your own house, or is that only when you're doing it for other people? I don't have a property, I'm trying to understand what the real startup costs are, including software people pay for to track all this.
