Quoted twelve agents at $225 flat and four said yes. Price or package?
Six weeks into taking paid work. Gear is bought and paid for, about $4,300 all in for a body, two lenses, a flash setup, and a tripod, plus $99 a month for editing software and cloud storage. No drone yet, no Part 107.
Package is 30 to 35 edited interior and exterior images, next business day delivery, up to 2,500 square feet, $225 flat. Anything over 2,500 is $50 per additional 500. I quoted twelve agents in a metro of about 400,000. Four booked, and of those four, two have come back a second time. So I've done nine shoots total, $2,040 collected.
What I actually spend per job: 25 to 40 minutes driving each way, 60 to 90 minutes on site, and honestly about 90 minutes editing because I bracket everything and blend by hand. Call it four hours door to door for the average job. That's $56 an hour before gas, before the software, before taxes, before the time I spend quoting people who say no.
The three agents who told me why they passed all said roughly the same thing. Their current person does $199 including a floor plan, or $250 with a short vertical video for social. So I'm priced in the middle with the thinnest deliverable.
The decision is whether to drop to $185 and try to buy volume, hold at $225 and add a floor plan I'd have to learn, or go up to $295 with video and stop competing with the $199 person entirely. I have maybe two months of runway to figure this out before I have to go back to hourly work.
