My housing authority sent the wrong amount for three months before anyone caught it
$1,340 instead of $1,190, and I only noticed because I was reconciling Q1 against the HAP contract. Told my contact at the authority and she said just send the overage back, no big deal. Took me two more calls and a written request to get confirmation that they weren't going to claw it back as a penalty or flag me for something. That whole stretch ran about six weeks of uncertainty on whether I'd done something wrong. I hadn't, they had. Still had to prove it. Running two units through this authority in Columbus, been at it about 14 months, and this is the first payment error but I'm wondering now if anyone else has seen theirs drift and not caught it until way later. My outside accountant was the one who said I should reconcile HAP against the actual contract every quarter and I'm glad she did because I would have let it ride.
