My housing authority told me to stop using my own lease entirely
Heard this from another landlord at a meeting in Decatur last Tuesday, and I have not been able to let it go. She said her contact at the authority told her point blank that the tenancy addendum is the lease, and anything she puts in her own document that the addendum does not allow is basically decorative. She has been doing this for six years across four units and she said she only found out because she tried to enforce a pet clause and the hearing officer threw it out. Six years. I am still in the research phase on my first voucher property and I keep going back to whether I am supposed to treat my lease as the primary document or just a formality I am writing for my own comfort.
